Letter from the Head of the C19 Task Force

Dear GFCH Members,

Ki position? A brief note to bring you up to date with what the foundation has been up to over the past couple of weeks. As you may know, since the start of the year our founding President, Dr Shivraj Sohur, had highlighted 8 priorities for us to focus on in 2020. As the saying goes, the best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry.

As the COVID-19 (C19) pandemic evolved, we strongly felt that as a global health foundation it was our duty to step up and play our part in helping Mauritius reduce the spread. We quickly built a team of eager volunteers from various countries around the globe to help with this effort. It was amazing to see how despite the time zones, Mauritians and friends of Mauritius from the United States of America, Canada, France, England, Australia, and of course Mauritius, readily engaged to research, brainstorm, create and disseminate content that highlights the core and critical steps to take towards conquering C19.

The GFCH C19 task force recruited several new adherents and quickly evolved from a WhatsApp group to more sophisticated project management software in a matter of weeks. This has allowed this wonderful and gifted team of individuals, that barely knew each other two weeks ago, to create informative and educational content that has reached 100s of thousands of Mauritians through our digital platforms (Facebook, GFCH website, YouTube channel). From a symptom checklist chart to the latest collaboration with the famous Bhojpuri Boys resulting in a “corona remix” of Lougarou, the creative and informative minds continue to be hard at work to raise awareness and help Mauritius defeat C19.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who are part of the C19 Task Force. They have worked relentlessly, on their own time and dime, until ungodly hours of the day/night to create and disseminate this important content. It’s humbling and a true
privilege to be able to lead these genuinely amazing human beings!

I’ll invite members who are interested to join the C19 task force to get in touch. We still need content creators and people with experience in design and animation. Support your fellow members by liking, following and sharing the GFCH Facebook page to your networks.

Rest assured, we are still working tirelessly behind the scenes to achieve our foundation’s ultimate goal, which is curbing uncontrolled diabetes to 5% by 2035.

Gwendolyn Brooks once wrote: “We are each other’s harvest; we are each other’s business; we are each other’s magnitude and bond.” This quote should resonate with each and every one of us in this time where everyone’s actions make a difference in what will next unfold in the C19 story.

Onwards and Upwards

Vince
